TOPA Diagnostics has the availability of rapid molecular microbiology testing for infectious diseases. Utilizing PCR/Nucleic Acid Amplification Technology, TOPA Diagnostics provides highly sensitive and specific results in hours, not days, with positive results called to the physician’s office.  Click Here for Molecular Reference Guide.

Target organisms: Gardnerella vaginalis, Atopobium vaginae, BV AB-2, Megasphaera-1
Specimen source: ApexDx™ swab, ThinPrep, SurePath

Target Organism: C. difficile
Specimen Source: Stool sample
Comments:

  1. PCR for C. difficile and the hypervirulent 027/NAP1/BI strain See Diagnostic Update
  2. GHD/Toxin EIA as a stand-alone test See Diagnostic Update

Target organisms: C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. krusei
Specimen source: ApexDx™ swab, ThinPrep, SurePath

Target Organism: Chlamydia/gonorrhea
Specimen Source: Urine, vaginal swab, or ThinPrep pap sample
Comments: Molecular testing is recommended by the CDC as the preferred method of diagnosis

Target Organism: FilmArray GI panel
Specimen Source: Stool sample
Comments: Molecular testing identifies 22 GI pathogens. Multiplex panel includes common bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

Will reflex to GDH/Toxin EIA if PCR panel is positive for C. Difficile.

Target Organism: FilmArray Respiratory panel
Specimen Source: Nasopharyngeal swab
Comments: Molecular testing identifies 22 Respiratory pathogens, including SARS-COV-2. Multiplex panel includes common bacteria and viruses.

Target Organism: Group A Streptococcus
Specimen Source: Throat swab
Comments: Molecular testing is more sensitive than culture, and may be used in place of rapid antigen testing or for patients with negative rapid antigen results, instead of culture.

Target Organism: HPV
Specimen Source: ThinPrep pap sample
Comments: Molecular testing identifies high-risk HPV, with genotyping results for HPV types 16 and 18
See Diagnostic Update

Target Organism: Influenza
Specimen Source: Nasopharyngeal swab
Comments: Molecular testing identifies influenza a, B, and 2009 H1N1, and is the most accurate method for laboratory diagnosis.

Target organisms: M. hominis, M. genitalium, M. urealyticum, U. parvum
Specimen source: ApexDx™ swab, ThinPrep, SurePath

Target Organism: Pertussis
Specimen Source: Nasopharyngeal swab
Comments: Molecular testing is the most accurate method for laboratory diagnosis.

Target Organism: Vaginosis/vaginitis
Specimen Source: Vaginal swab
Comments: DNA probes identify Candida, Trichomonas, and Gardnerella

Standard analytical turnaround time for rapid molecular assays is 1-2 hours. For samples collected in the morning, results will generally be available the same day. For samples collected in the afternoon, results will generally be available by 9:00 the next morning. Please note that ThinPrep pap samples require longer processing to ensure accurate results.  Click Here for Molecular Quick Reference Guide.
